HOUSTON CENTRAL YOUTH MUSIC PROGRAMS
Youth Ensemble
Our Youth Ensemble accepts members between the ages of 12 to 21 years. We are currently accepting beginner, intermediate, and advanced musicians. Beginner musicians are required to take music lessons for a minimum of 12 months, either independently or with our Strings or Wind instructors. Music lessons will ensure each member has a smooth integration into the ensemble. The Youth Ensemble practices three (3) times a month, on the first and third Friday, in addition to a TBD day. The Ensemble directors, Dr. Norma Saint-Jean, Ms. Shayna Powers, and Ms. Angela Senduk, aim to nurture our youth musicians through practice and performance.
Children's Orchestra
Our Children’s orchestra accepts members between 4 and 11 years of age. We require all members to take private lessons independently or with our strings instructor, Ms. Shayna Powers. The Children’s orchestra will feed our Youth Ensemble with new members as they reach musical and chronological maturity. The orchestra will practice twice (2) a month on a Saturday and Sunday TBD by Maestro Shayna Powers.
Youth Choir
Our Youth Choir accepts members between 12 to 21 years of age. We are currently accepting beginner, intermediate, and advanced choristers. The Youth Choir will practice three (3) times a month, on the first and third Saturday plus another TBD. Additional Choir practice days may be added to the schedule as needed. The Choir Maestras, Mrs. Sonja Long-Lambie, and Mrs. Jovia Godfrey will provide vocal training and guidance for all levels.
